Tea for 2sday (I mean Wednesday)

I worked the second half of the day today, and man was it tough to convince my body that leaving the house was a good idea. It was about 40 degrees and viciously pouring rain all day. The kind of day where you just don't want to get from under your covers, but pile on more blankets and catch up on some reading. Although my evil enchanted bed soothingly sang her siren song I pulled apart the sheets and managed some productivity. But not until after a large mug of vanilla tea with honey and almond milk.Or two. :)
I managed a few prototype pieces that will be making their debut at Beadlush this weekend, though I think there are a few things I would like to change about the ones that will inevitably end up on my Corvidae Page. I think I'm going to do a more flexible chain for the little galaxy necklaces. I just feel like the stiffer chain looks much better on longer pieces. I may end up with different lockets because I can get get them more consistently, but overall I'm pretty pleased.

I'm actually kind of in love with my little galaxy pendants. They are hand water-colored (each is unique) and sealed in resin with a Hematite star. I am aiming to have these guys on line for sale by Dec 3rd. Ish. You guys know how I work though, so god only knows. But these go in Beadlush TODAY! Come and get 'em! Only $29 ea!

Fall Flowers

The leaves are just starting to really get their Fall on around these parts. I visited Asheville, NC just a few weeks ago and it was weeks ahead of us. The tops of the trees there were ablaze with the seasonal changes, and I found myself really wanting our trees to get with the program. When we snapped these photos some of the summers last flowers we just blooming, and I couldn't resist posing in front of all that pretty purple. I hoped it would accentuate the burgundy hue Tony had added to my hair that morning (along with temporary cute crimps). I love showing off his handiwork whenever I get a chance.

But not a real green dress (that's cruel)

If you were thinking that this outfit looks just a bit springy, you would be 100% correct. You are looking at my St. Patrick's day garb. Yeah, that's right. March 17th. I have had these guys stuck in Lightroom unable to post them for months. I have no idea what went wrong, but when I loaded the photos into my computer initially, I somehow missed half of the file. I still lost about 1/2 of the photos, but managed to re-upload these. Yay! So you guys don't have to miss out on my kindergarten teacher cardigan after all.  Let's see if I can remember what we did that day...
We met in Plaza Midwood to move a table into the new building for work. Then we hit Common Market for a few beers. The rest of the day gets pretty fuzzy for some reason. I guess if you can remember all of St. Pat's you weren't really celebrating.

Cardigan: Buffalo Exchange(d) Anthro
Blouse: Thrifted American Eagle

We are gearing up to celebrate July 4th this Thursday. Hopefully I'll be able to snag some obligatory sparkler shots.  And who knows, maybe I'll even get those photos posted before Halloween.
Have a safe and happy Independence day, All!

Mushroom Kingdom

Thrfting is a sport. I literally work up a sweat hauling about the massive pile of clothes, protecting my treasure pile from thieving hipsters (and old ladies), and trying on 25 items to come away with perhaps 3.  A huge chunk of the reason to get all sweaty and trying on clothes without a dressing room in public is the rush you get when you FIND something. Or when you find SOMETHING. Either way, EXCITEMENT. In the case of this sweater, I found SOMETHING. the second I laid eyes on this treasure, NOTHING else in my cart mattered. I would have elbowed a hipster right between the eyes to protect it. Not once did this glorious garment leave my shaking grasp before I checked out. I can't recall anything else that came home with me that day. There is a distinct possibility that upon finding my precious, I abandoned the stack that previously I had protected so adamantly, and gone straight to the register.  So I was extremely grateful for a few chilly days to be able to don the fun fungus jumper. In all likelihood, and sadness, this amazing piece will have to hang out in my closet for 6 or so months before I'm really going to be able to wear it again.

Sweater: Vintage Thrifted
Blouse: Limited Thrifted
Skirt: Vintage Thrifted

Warmer days are moving in, and my feet are itching (not literally. eww.)  to get into some sandals, but secretly, I will miss my sweaters and tights until fall. I think I may need to relocate to a cooler climate.

The End Of Winter

HOLY CRAP, I'm behind. I have seriously been lacking in the time department. We have been so busy with moving Beadlush to a new location, that my daily routine has not had any room for blogging. But our lovely new home is (mostly) complete and I've found a few minuets to post.

After the meekest winter I have ever experienced in NC, spring just didn't seen to want to come. The groundhog seriously misread his shadow this year. We spent the entirety of March in cold to chilly conditions (but still no real snow). The good news about extended chilliness is I get to layer for longer! Now at the end of April it's reaching a more typical Hot and humid Charlotte spring, but I still had this photo set to post. And I loved this outfit! This dress has a very low V-neck, which isn't usually my thing, and not great for cold weather. Layering to the rescue! My standby of a collared shirt and cardigan made this a bit more cozy. Add a contesting scarf, and this ended up being one of my favorite outfits this winter.

 Dress: Thrifted
Blouse: Also Thrifted
Cardigan: Forever 21
Tights: Betsy Johnson
Boots: Seychelles
Scarf: Arden B

Hopefully, I'll have some more time for creating and posting soon.

New pieces

Shockingly, I have been working, pretty hard, at my table. I've been slowly tapping into my creativity to build new pieces. I'm still on a bit of a tribal kick, but I've been visiting some alternate influences as well. I'm digging SciFi posters and art (especially vintage stuff). The colors and textures are lovely and still use a lot of geometric shapes that I'm digging. So these are some of the first jewels rolling of the line.

My "Red Planet" necklace is available in my shop --> HERE
It fetures two of the summer's hottest colors, mint and coral, as well as robin's egg blue vintage glass, black carved bone, and brick red Agate.

Keep checking back, I have more pieces to put up soon!

Cranberry Sauce

This dress is one of my very favorites. I found it at an estate sale where I purchased a "lot" of clothing.  Most of the items were too large and have made their way elsewhere, but this dress fit me perfectly. I had to hem it significantly, and I have made multiple repairs on it over time, but this handmade piece has stood the test of time and remains beautiful and comfortable.

Polka Dot-Dash

Moment of honesty: This is from September. I'm really far behind. To be fair my life is so booked solid this moth that I have a hand written calender I have to check every morning. I'm aware that most people do this on a regular basis. As you may have concluded from this blog, I'm not most people. I lead my life disorganized and scatterbrained. I have been desperately trying to add a schedule to my life to make it easier to get things done, but so far all that works in my lists. I don't think I will ever be without a paper note pad to jot down my thoughts and lists. It's the only think that keeps me grounded-ish.

Cardigan: Thrifted kids (Old Navy i think)
Dress: Target Kids
Necklace: Corvidae
Tights: Target (i think)

What keeps your head from spinning off its shoulders?
Inquiering minds need to know.

Dying Sunlight

When you see the boots, you know the tights aren't too far behind! I'm truly ecstatic about the fall season. I love when the weather begins to get just a bit crisp and I can layer! Here I come tights and sweaters! Truth be told I've worn tights almost every day for over a week now, I just haven't been able to get photos. We just barely got these! John snapped off 20 or so shots in the dying sunlight and then we stood and watched the spectacular sun set together.
This dress was purchased at a thrift store right at the beginning of spring. My full intention was to color strip it and redye. Then I accidentally fell in love with it. I wore it a bunch this summer sans crinoline and with my gold sandals.  The cardigan is a recent thrift acquisition and the Mori girl in me is so in to it.  How could I pass up a romantic vintage Swedish tatted cardigan? For $4! I had two ladies try and swipe it from my try on pile in the store! Always be vigilant and protect your scores while thrifting!

I hope the weather is cooling off where you are. Be sure to get out and enjoy it!

Clean Studio

A clean studio is a productive one...right? No crap on the floor, my walls have been arted (my word, don't steal. Ok, you can borrow) and most importantly, my desk is free of debris. Time to start cranking out new pieces for fall 2012.

I'll get right on that.
Right after this nap.

Summer Sunset

It's been a warm, weird, kinda summer. I live in Charlotte, NC and it has reached 105 this year (not mention we had more than one week where every day was over 100). After the terrible unlivable (we also have like 60% humidity or more on most days) heat wave came the never ending downpours. I began to feel like I would never see the sun again. That too has (mostly) passed and although it did rain for a while yesterday, it was a lovely bright sunset. Or at least bright enough for photos. While we do have stupid hot and rainy days, it's nice to be able to tolerate being outside for a spell.
